Youtube is one of the fastest growing portals in the World Wide Web, and according to Alexa rankings for 2007, it is the tenth most popular website in the cyberspace, far outpacing even the popular community website MySpace's growth.
According to a July 16, 2006 announcement, 100 million clips are viewed daily on YouTube, with an additional 65,000 new videos uploaded per 24 hours.
YouTube, according to Hitswise.com, has over 64% of the online video market in the UK. The number of visitors to YouTube is estimated to be over 20 million every month.According to Nielsen/NetRatings, where around 44% are female, 56% male, and the 12-17 year old age group is dominant.
YouTube Valuation
Although YouTube's potential market value in an acquisition is pure speculation, an article in the New York Post suggested on July 23, 2006 that YouTube may be worth anywhere from $600 million to $1 billion.
On August 22, 2006 the Web 2.0 blog Techcrunch suggested that Grouper's acquisition price of $65 million implies a YouTube valuation of approximately $2 billion. On August 24 2006 an article on CNET's News.com exclaimed "YouTube could be a steal at $1 billion"
